About James Posey Associates
James Posey Associates has grown to a firm of more than 62 since Baltimore engineer James Posey started his practice in 1911. Today, we provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering and commissioning services to architects and building owners throughout the eastern US. Our focus is MEP infrastructure and building systems for program-driven facilities in the public and institutional sectors for education, government, healthcare, medical research, historic preservation, and the arts. We offer a full range of services from feasibility through occupancy. In addition to HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, and emergency power systems, we design control systems, lighting, and sprinkler and fire alarm systems, and infrastructure for technology. Our staff has been with us an average of 14 years, and we take pride in this high rate of retention. We also have an impressive record of continuity in the firm’s leadership with only five presidents over a century of continuous practice. The staff includes 23 Professional Engineers and 20 LEED Accredited Professionals. Among our awards for design excellence are those from the American Council of Engineering Companies, ASHRAE, American Institute of Architects, US Green Building Council, Baltimore Heritage, Building Congress and Exchange, and the Association of Energy Engineers. Our portfolio of nearly 100 LEED certified projects features Maryland’s first LEED Gold hospital, first LEED Gold school, and first net zero energy school. We were the first firm honored by AIA Baltimore as “Outstanding Consultant of the Year” and are one of only a couple of firms to receive the award twice.
