About LA River Arts

Founded in 2014, LA River Arts combines advocacy, public policy, and the arts to re-present the river we share. Dynamic public art is the ideal platform for focusing public attention to the LA River. Together, we can learn to be stewards of our watershed, regenerating it with creative and community-led projects. Through planning, conversation, and art-driven engagement, we work to honor the founding communities of this historic landscape, elevate the visibility of artists working in collaboration with the river, and support the vibrant communities the river flows through. MISSION: LARA provides a critical platform for artists to foreground cultural histories, narratives, and perspectives in the ongoing de-velopment of the LA River. We are committed to creating spaces for engagement and dialogue through inclusive and accessible programming driven by the communities we serve. We believe that the arts are a catalyst for centering the intertwined relationship of ourselves and the River. We create art programs that look to the past and propose new possibilities. VISION: The story of the LA River is a continuing narrative. The mosaic of cultural identities, the knowledge of our shared history, and a vision of a healthy environment full of cultural opportunities for connection are integral to the future LA River.
