About Learning Alliance

Learning Alliance is a startup NGO that tackles the foundational learning crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa. We deliver an evidence-based intervention called Structured Pedagogy, which experts recommend as among the world's most cost-effective and scalable approaches to improving learning outcomes. In partnership with the Ministry of Education and district government, we deliver a program with 4 elements: 1) simple daily lesson plans, based on the science of how kids learn; 2) teacher training on how to use the lessons; 3) ongoing classroom visits from our coaches, who provide teachers with advice and encouragement; and 4) daily digital tracking of teacher progress for continuous feedback loops. Learning Alliance was incubated by the Ambitious Impact charity incubator in 2024, and launched a large-scale pilot in Uganda in 2025. We are currently running a yearlong pilot in Iganga District of Eastern Uganda, aiming to improve early grades reading outcomes. We partner with 75 government and low-cost private schools, reaching 20,000 learners in grades Primary 1 - 3. We have seen a hugely positive response to our programs, with 98% of invited schools opting into our program, 93% of invited teachers attending our training, and 95% of teachers implementing our lesson plans on a regular basis. We are committed to rigorously measuring our impact, including a quasi-experimental impact evaluation with results expected in Feb 2026. Our mid-line assessment shows large and statistically significant learning gains at every grade level. Every aspect of our program model is designed for simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and scalability, with the aim to serve 1 million learners by 2030. Learning Alliance is a team of 9 educators, operators, and innovators, with headquarters in Eastern Uganda.
