About Local Food Plus
Local Food Plus (legally Land Food People Foundation, and also known as LFP) is a national charitable non-profit committed to growing local sustainable food systems across the country. We certify farms and processors for environmentally and socially sustainable practices, make connections throughout the supply chain, educate communities about the benefits of local sustainable food systems, and help buyers of all different sizes connect to local and sustainable food. We also run workshops and consult on how to introduce local and sustainable food programs and practices. LFP’s flagship program is its comprehensive regionally based certification program which encompasses a wide range of environmental and social sustainability best practices. “Certified Local Sustainable” certification is awarded to farmers and processors who work to: 1. Employ sustainable production systems that reduce or eliminate synthetic pesticides and fertilizers; avoid the use of hormones, antibiotics, and genetic engineering; and conserve soil and water. 2. Provide safe and fair working conditions for on-farm labour. 3. Provide healthy and humane care for livestock. 4. Protect and enhance wildlife habitat and biodiversity on working farm landscapes. 5. Reduce on-farm energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Our charitable number is 82353 0522 RR0001
