About Magical Getaway Foundation

The Magical Getaway Foundation (MGF) is the only national charity dedicated to gifting first ever holidays/getaways to eligible children and their families living in Australia. The demand is high, as 1 in 3 Australian children have never been on a holiday. It’s not about the holiday/getaway, it’s what the holiday brings; HOPE. We work in collaboration with referring agencies including schools, hospitals, child care centres, advocacy groups, Anglicare, Orange Door and Berry Street before, during and after the experience. Anxiety, fear, lack of self-worth, low self-esteem, powerlessness and isolation; these feelings are paramount in the lives of the children and families that MGF supports. There is a myriad of reasons for these feelings including, but not limited to; poverty, domestic violence, homelessness, unemployment, sexual abuse, being a refugee, trauma and/or neglect. Research unequivocally indicates that holidays bring physical and psychological health benefits. Holidays are a chance for families to create long-lasting treasured memories. They reduce anxiety, increase self-esteem and enhance self-worth; to bring hope. Holidays are a lifeline; not a luxury. Our experience has helped with our healing… " Annalise (previous MGF holiday recipient) Seeing new sights and exploring new places increases knowledge and provides an opportunity to widen perspectives, resulting in increased community participation and employability. "I now have a job, bought a car and am looking forward to going on my own holidays." Bianca (6 months after her MGF holiday). Our voluntary Ambassadors are Kat Stewart and Steven Bradbury OAM. All Board members also work in a voluntary capacity, outside of their full-time employment.
