About McCreary Centre Society
McCreary Centre Society is a non-government not-for-profit committed to improving the health of BC youth through research and community-based projects. Founded in 1977, McCreary sponsors and promotes a wide range of activities and research to identify and address the health needs of young people in the province. McCreary is most well-known for the BC Adolescent Health Survey (BC AHS), which takes place every five years in public schools across the province. In addition to the repeated research projects, such as the BC AHS, a survey with youth in custody, and homeless and street-involved youth, McCreary also undertakes topic-specific and one-off research and consultation projects with youth. In addition to doing internal evaluations of its own projects, McCreary carries out independent evaluations for other non-profit agencies. We adopt a collaborative and flexible approach to evaluations, with the programs being evaluated ultimately deciding on the evaluation approach best suited to meet their needs and goals. All measures and tools are developed in consultation with the organization and other relevant stakeholders, including youth, and modifications are made based on their feedback. McCreary's Youth Advisory and Action Council (YAC) creates opportunities for youth ages 15-24 to make a difference in their communities, meet new friends, share their voice, and take part in training and leadership activities. The YAC is currently offering Youth Action Grants (YAGs), to BC youth ages 12-19 from school districts that participated in the BC AHS to deliver a project or event which aims to improve youth health in their school or community.
