I make handmade aromatherapy bath, body & skincare products and specialise in bespoke personalised products. I try to keep my products as natural as possible. All my products that contain oil and oil-based ingredients, such as balms, body butters and massage oils, can be made using 100% natural ingredients and do not require the addition of preservatives. Sometimes a mild natural antioxidant such as vitamin E (tocopherol), rosemary extract or grapefruit seed extract may be used. If these are not effective then a preservative that meets strict toxicological and biodegradability requirements can be used. The toxicity and biodegradability criteria ensure that the ingredient is not harmful to health and has minimum environmental impact. In addition, emulsifiers must meet the same requirements, and are often naturally derived - for example, decyl glucoside, which can be made from corn starch. However, products that contain water, and water and oil based ingredients such as creams, lotions and shampoos, need to have some kind of preservative system so that they are safe to use, as they prevent the formation of bacteria and mould. In addition, they may need an emulsifier which mixes together the oil and water ingredients and stops them separating. These are required by law, otherwise they would not pass the strict cosmetic safety assessments. I use only pure essential oils, tinctures and extracts. My products contain only the best quality ingredients which are as natural as possible and are free from: Parabens Sodium lauryl sulphate, Sodium laureth sulphate Synthetic fragrances Petrochemicals Lanolin Any other unnecessary synthetic ingredients Mineral oils Methylisothiazolinone All ingredients are ethically sourced, environmentally-friendly, not tested on animals, vegan-friendly, with the exception of my lip balm, which contains beeswax, and my luxury bath milk powder, which contains dried goats' milk. I use only vegetable-based glycerine.
