About New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division
The NM Outdoor Recreation Division of the NM Economic Development Department is dedicated to enhancing the mental and physical well-being of New Mexicans through the transformative power of outdoor recreation. We are committed to inspiring all New Mexicans to protect and cherish their natural heritage – the lands, waters, flora, and fauna that make our state unique. By fostering a deep sense of stewardship, we aim to drive long-term, sustainable investments in infrastructure and education. Our Core Values: We measure success by our impacts in these five key areas: Sustainable Economic Development Equity and Access Conservation and Stewardship Education Health and Well-being Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed New Mexico’s Outdoor Recreation Division into law on April 2, 2019. At the time, our office joined a dozen other states committed to growing and championing the outdoor recreation economy, which we recognize as an immensely powerful engine to grow wealth and job opportunities in our state. Written into the law was the first-ever Outdoor Equity Fund, a grant intended to help disadvantaged youth get outside. In 2020, the Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant was created to boost local economies, strengthen outdoor industries, and foster community well-being by funding the planning, development, and improvement of trails and related infrastructure.
