About North Pacific
North Pacific is a Vancouver-based firm, specializing in competency-based occupational standards and assessments. The effectiveness of our results has been tested and proven in a series of successful projects for regulators, industry associations and large employers across North America. North Pacific Inc. works extensively with Industry Training Organizations to develop and revise standards for trade certifications. We have developed trades standards and provincial assessment questions for several trade apprenticeship programs in B.C. in accordance with the Red Seal Program. We conduct extensive research and consult with industry stakeholders to develop a program delivery model for a particular trade or industry. We develop competency standards for newly-defined trades and consult with stakeholders and subject matter experts to revise and update existing trade competency standards. As a part of the licensing experience, we create and revise examinations and practical assessments, including Tables of Specifications, Level Exams and Certificate of Qualification Exams. North Pacific has significant experience in designing, developing and reviewing apprenticeship programs and standards in collaboration with key industry stakeholders. For our work on programs and standards, we immerse ourselves in understanding the essential components of the work roles and on-the-job competencies for a given trade’s qualifications. We conduct extensive industry interviews and consultation sessions to identify the needs of various stakeholders including trade associations, employers, labour groups, potential training providers, and regulators with respect to training delivery program models and certification alternatives for the industry. To support apprenticeship programs and standards, we also design and develop instructional materials, both for the classroom and the workplace.
