About Nourish Now

MISSION To solve two major social issues simultaneously: food waste & hunger. Nourish Now is a 501c3 nonprofit food bank, specialized in food recovery and providing donations from grocers, caterers, restaurants, bakeries, and other food donors for the benefit of children, families, and the elderly, as well as shelters, food pantries, and other organizations working to end hunger. Through our programs, viable food partners are identified, and donations of food are recovered and redistributed through our network. Nourish Now operates under the following key philosophies. Through our Programs, donations are directly provided to more than 700 families and 90 nonprofit organizations throughout Montgomery County, MD and the DC metro region. In receiving regularly scheduled donations, Partner Organizations retain funding that would otherwise be used to purchase food. Through these collaborations we strengthen Montgomery County’s food assistance sector as a whole. OUR STORY Nourish Now was founded by current Executive Director, Brett Meyers, after years of working the food service industry. He learned that 75 billion pounds of fresh food is wasted each year in the United States, while every day over 50 million people experience food insecurity. In May of 2011, Brett founded Nourish Now with the goal of making food waste and hunger each other’s solutions. By October of 2013, Nourish Now established itself as Montgomery County’s leader in prepared food recovery with 1200 square feet of storage space, a refrigerated van, and a full-time staff dedicated to the collection and redistribution of fresh food donations. Thanks to our Food Donor Partners, Nourish Now is able to provide 3-5 day supplies of high-quality food for thousands of those in need in our communities each month. By maintaining strong relationships with local philanthropic food providers, we have donated over 18 million pounds of food since our inception.
