About Opera Verace Foundation

The Opera Verace Foundation is dedicated to making opera accessible to everyone through education, innovation, and technology. We're addressing opera's most pressing challenges: declining attendance, limited geographic access, insufficient funding support, and the career transition gap for emerging talent. Our foundation brings opera's emotional power to diverse audiences through: 1) A free "virtual opera house" with communal streaming that builds community and engages them through interactive viewing; 2) Career development grants for exceptional young singers who excel both vocally and theatrically; 3) Awards for opera companies and/or creatives who produce stagings that are "verace;" (true to composers' intentions); and 4) Dissemination of information that welcomes and raises curiosity in newcomers to this magnificent art form. Founded by two Stanford professors, we believe opera's ability to move hearts and improve mental wellbeing should reach everyone, regardless of location or economic means. Research shows opera reduces stress and builds community—essential benefits in today's world. "Verace" means genuine and true in Italian, reflecting our commitment to singers and performances that honor the art form while creating profound emotional connections. We support singers and productions that balance tradition with audience engagement, ensuring opera remains a vibrant, living art form for future generations.
