About Paddington Farm Trust
Based on a 43-acre organic farm near Glastonbury, we help people connect with the natural world and learn about organic growing, rural skills and sustainability. We host residentials for young people from deprived urban areas, enabling them to take part in farming and growing, learn where food comes from and spend time in nature. Many come from challenging backgrounds, with complex personal and family issues, compounded by chronic poverty and lack of opportunity. Our farm residentials can be life-changing for these children, enabling them to experience a very different world and build new skills, confidence and self-esteem. Many groups come back year after year, bringing new generations of young people to experience the farm. Through these residentials we help participants build an understanding of the countryside and, by providing a safe and nurturing environment, a sense that they have a place within it. We also offer weekly volunteering days, where people of all ages and abilities can help in our organic vegetable garden or on the wider farm, before coming together for a nutritious home-cooked lunch made with our own organic produce. Our volunteer days particularly support participants experiencing loneliness, anxiety and chronic health issues, and around half of our regular volunteers have additional needs. We provide rustic accommodation in our converted Farmhouse, and summer camping in our meadow and orchard. In addition we host rural craft workshops, family-friendly events, apprenticeships, Duke of Edinburgh and work experience placements and forest schools. And we grow organic produce which we sell at Glastonbury’s weekly market - supporting the whole community to access healthy, sustainable, local food.
