Phillips Services roots are well established locally and the company’s history can be directly traced back to the 1920’s when George Phillips Jones, set up business as General Engineering (Swansea) Ltd. Carrying out ship repairs at Cambrian Dry Dock. This was after he had served his time as an apprentice engineer in the Ocean Dry Dock, Swansea (were Sainsbury’s are now) and spending some years at sea. On his death in 1961 his son Roger Phillips Jones took over, and due to the decline in shipping, he decided to set up a separate company to carry out specifically electrical work, known as Phillips Services (Wales) Ltd. This company has grown into one of South West Wales largest electrical contractors. During this time Steven Phillips Jones took over from Roger Phillips Jones and the company's managing director is now Barry Morgan. Over the years there have been significant changes to the type of work carried out from Ship repair and refurbishment work, maintenance to heavy industry through to commercial installation work at schools and hospitals, through to general installation work for local domestic housing stock. In more recent times, and after completing some 15000 contracts, with our strong team many of whom have been with the company most of their working lives we are responding to changes in the Patterns of work, Health and Safety, electrical certification, Part P and the change in contracting to partnering arrangements, term contracts and open book accounting. A large proportion of our staff have been with, and enjoyed working with, the company for many years. We are currently one of South West Wales largest electrical contractors, working in partnership with Swansea City Council, Carmarthenshire Council, NHS Trust Wales and many other organisations to help them fulfil their obligations under testing and inspection rules as well as helping develop new sites and contracts across South West Wales.
