About PigO FoodTech
Let's end piglet castration forever together! We have been developing the first non-destructive, inexpensive, sustainable, pork meat classification on-line, for immediate grading of boar taint and additional quality measures. Introduction Castration of piglets impairs animal welfare, increases greenhouse gas emissions, and decreases farmers’ economics. Castration has been criticized by the public and the EU has been aiming to ban surgical castration since 2018. The production cost of a surgically castrated pig as compared to an entire male pig is estimated at 50 EUR/pig higher, 15-20% more feed is required to produce the same amount of meat and nitrogen excretion is about 15% higher. Therefore the sustainable, welfare-friendly, cost-effective solution that can meet consumers' demand, is to raise entire male pigs and to inspect the meat with an automated on-line classification for boar taint, as well as overall quality and safety. The solution Classification of carcasses at the slaughter line by a fully automated system will ensure high quality and safe products for consumers. Our solution offers a non-destructive, cost-effective, sustainable, industrial, and accurate product classification, for immediate grading of boar taint and additional measures for quality and safety at the slaughter line, using advanced optical systems powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The technology holds high future potential to solve multiple industrial challenges in one instrument, in real-time, without any requirement for specialized personnel, biopsies or an analytical laboratory. The technology can serve the pork industry, and potentially other protein-based products, addressing the growing consumer need for safe, quality, and ethical consumption.
