Plymouth’s Award-Winning Student Safety Team Emergency Medical & Welfare Support for the Nighttime Economy Plymouth Night Patrol is a student-led frontline welfare and medical response organisation dedicated to keeping people safe during nights out in Plymouth. Operating between 9 PM and 4 AM on key nights, our trained volunteers patrol the city’s busiest areas to provide immediate assistance to anyone in need—whether through first aid, safeguarding support, or helping vulnerable individuals get home safely. We work both on the streets and inside nightclubs, assisting individuals who may be intoxicated, lost, separated from friends, distressed, or experiencing medical emergencies. We respond to incidents through direct patrols and via the pub and club radio system, ensuring rapid intervention when necessary. Our team operates in close collaboration with a wide range of local partners including venue security, Devon & Cornwall Police, South Western Ambulance Service, Street Pastors, the City Council, and university services. This coordinated approach ensures we can provide effective support and reduce pressure on emergency services. From preventing injuries caused by alcohol to safeguarding those in crisis, our work plays a crucial role in harm reduction and community wellbeing.
