About Prevention Partners
Our mission: To lead organizations to build healthy communities The nonprofit Prevention Partners addresses the leading causes of preventable disease: tobacco use, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and obesity. Our suite of web-based products -- Work Healthy America, Zone Health, and Patient Quit Tobacco System -- transform where we work, go to school, and receive care by building policies, benefits and environments that support healthy choices. The organization was founded in 1998 as North Carolina Prevention Partners by Meg Molloy, DrPH, MPH, RD, and first housed at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Early accomplishments include creating the Preventive Benefits Profile, a voluntary insurance reform campaign to have health insurance plans cover preventive health services; advocating for dedicated health and wellness funds from North Carolina's tobacco settlement; working on the successful campaign to increase the cigarette excise tax in 2005; and helping found the NC Alliance for Health. Our name changed to simply Prevention Partners late in 2013, reflecting the broadening scope of our work. As it has grown, Prevention Partners' work has evolved into the creation of web-based assessment and training products: WorkHealthy America for workplaces, Zone Health for schools, and Quit Tobacco Systems for hospitals and health clinics. While these programs are bringing prevention practices to more than two dozen states, our commitment to North Carolina is only deepening with Our Promise to North Carolina campaign, vowing to reach all 100 counties in the state where our work is rooted. Our ultimate vision: that all Americans can choose to lead healthy, productive lives.
