Rata, short for Rata Kararehe is the Maori (Native New Zealand) for animal doctor. Andrew Scrimgeour, founder of Rata Vet Surgery, hails from NZ and 10 years ago recognised the benefit of a visiting orthopaedic service. Rata Vet Surgery has grown to become a team of 10 RCVS Advanced Practioners, 2 RVNs and 2 administrators. Our surgeons are all experienced in referral orthopaedics who, supported by a dedicated administration and nursing team, provide a professional, cost effective and efficient surgical service to patients in primary care practice. We cover a geographical area from Penzance to London and, comprehensively equipped, offer a range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical services from arthroscopy to anal saculectomy. Surgeons arrive to meet and consult with clients prior to surgery ensuring the correct diagnosis is made and explain in detail the condition, surgery, potential complications and required post operative care. Provision of information sheets along with a range of resources for the primary care team are available from the website. We stock Arthrex Synergy arthroscopy system, fracture systems from 1.0 to 3.5mm in Veterinary Instrumentation, N2, Intrauma Fixin, Securos PAX to name a few. We are passionate about delivering high level communication and surgical treatments to support the primary care team. Ongoing clinical audits ensure we are within the industry standards for surgical complications. Whilst we treat complex cases; angular limb surgeries, multi-traumas, OATS we will recommend referral to tertiary referral centres when we feel this is in the patient’s best interest.
