About Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen
Running under a market-oriented mode, Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen (RITS) is a bureau-level-institution jointly established by Tsinghua University and Shenzhen Municipal Government in December 1996. The RITS building was completed with construction space of 32,000m², occupying a land area of 16,000 m². According to the developmental trends of technology and industry, the requirements of enterprises of Shenzhen and abroad, RITS has invested more than 300 million RMB to establish four R&D centers consisting of "Center for Optomechatronics & Advanced Manufacturing", "Center for Electronics & Information Technology", "Center for Advanced Materials & Biotechnology" and "Center for New Energy & Environmental Technology". RITS won one Nationals Science & Technology Invention Award (second prize), two Nationals Science & Technology Awards (second prize) and one Guangdong Science & Technology Award (special prize). RITS has also applied for about 200 pieces of patents including 70% invention patents.
