About Restless Spirits Distilling Company
Restless Spirits Distilling Co. in North Kansas City, Missouri, is the only local craft distillery focused on the production of Irish-styled whiskeys. Michael Shannon and his wife, Benay—KC’s only female distiller—use traditional pot still methods along with bourbon barrel aging to create the rich flavor profile found in Stone Breaker, the first Irish & American blended whiskey. The Shannon Family founded Restless Spirits Distilling Co. in early 2015 with deep Kansas City roots. Michael’s great-great-grandfather immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1853, and his great-grandfather settled in Kansas City in the 1890s. The family lived in the Ninth Ward among the group referred to as ‘Rabbits’; those politically aligned with boss Joseph Shannon. With this history in mind, Restless Spirits Distilling Co. adopted the rabbit as a company mascot from which they launched their branding platform. Since 2015, Restless Spirits Distilling Co. has introduced multiple spirits into the market including the award-winning Builders Botanical Gin and their flagship Stone Breaker Irish & American Blended Whiskey. These spirits are distributed across Missouri and Kansas and in several states with the intent to distribute nationally. We are a real distillery with a real story run by real people. We are authentic, creating spirits inspired by Ireland and perfected on the American Plains.
