About Roll Call of North Texas
To provide a regular venue for fellowship and camaraderie, provide outreach and home visitation services, and share the stories of our local veterans through community engagement and publication. Monthly luncheons provide a venue for fellowship, honor, and camaraderie for veterans and service members of all ages. The event is from 11:30am-1:30pm, always at the same location, and requires an RSVP. A program accompanies lunch, with a different theme each month. For example, one month may focus on Korean War veterans or Vietnam. In some instances, the theme of a luncheon may focus on a significant event or date in military history, such as the end of WWII or a specific battle or engagement. Stories of our attendees’ heroism, courage and sacrifices are highlighted. We may interview several veterans whose military service included participation in a battle or campaign, we may have special guests such as a senator or member of congress, or we may provide singing entertainment. Regardless, we always sing the National Anthem, say the Pledge of Allegiance, have a prayer, and make announcements. We often make our attendees aware of special events in the community that support, honor, or highlight veterans. The luncheon is truly an amazing experience and to have so many veterans of all ages in one room together is incredible! It is something that cannot be adequately described with words but only experienced. Our veterans speak at schools, churches, and local organizations, sharing their stories and educating children and others. Our veterans may speak about a number of topics such as their combat experiences, supporting combat operations, post-traumatic stress disorder, transitioning from the military back to civilian life and many others. Our volunteers visit our veterans at home, in hospital or in rehab; drive them to appointments; show appreciation by spending time with them and learn about their service experience; take them out to lunch or for coffee.
