About Rupert Auerbach Architecture
I am a married father of a six-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, living in the old Muizenberg Village, Cape Town. In the words of Keats: “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,-that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” As an architect I aim to draw from projective geometry, great works of literature, art and poetry, and traversing the line between order and chaos, nature and culture. Having gained much experience in different construction techniques, my aim is to shift my focus to hand crafted artistic expression. My work in the arena of natural building and alternative construction includes a number of projects at various architectural practices: Greenhaus Architects: cob, timber, stone, thatch and living-roof houses. Jay Pillay Architects: gum poles and gabions on a government high school in a forest, for an informal settlement. Blue Green Planning and Design: bamboo and adobe in Costa Rica. COA: timber, makuti thatch, rammed earth, stone, solar and desalination coordination on Banyan Tree island projects off the coast of Mozambique. I have also worked on many large and small more conventional projects from concept to completion. Stage 1: Inception (clear project brief, appointment of consultant team, site constraints) Stage 2: Concept & Viability (preparation of a concept design based on the client's brief) Stage 3: Design Development (finalising the design, detailing the specifications, calculating financial viability) Stage 4: Documentation & Procurement (confirmation of the programme, submission of drawings to local authorities) Stage 5: Construction (administering the contracts and processes, issuing construction documentation, recording information from regular site, technical and progress meetings) Stage 6: Close Out (documentation)
