About San Francisco Human Rights Commission
For 60 years and counting, the San Francisco Human Rights Commission has served its mandate to address the causes of and problems resulting from prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, and discrimination. A department of the City & County of San Francisco, at the HRC we: - Work in service of human and civil rights; - Investigate and mediate discrimination complaints; - Resolve community disputes and issues involving individual or systemic illegal discrimination; and - Provide technical assistance, information, and referrals to individuals, community groups, businesses, and government agencies related to human rights and social services. The Mayor of San Francisco may appoint up to 11 Commissioners to help develop policy at the HRC and serve as the liaison between HRC and the community, the Mayor, and the Board of Supervisors. HRC’s Commission members represent diverse interests in the community and are able to leverage their professional and personal backgrounds to better address a wide range of issues impacting human and civil rights.
