About San Francisco Marin Medical Society
In 2017, the San Francisco Marin Medical Society (SFMMS) was created by combining two longstanding medical societies - the San Francisco Medical Society (SFMS) and the Marin Medical Society (MMS). SFMS was founded in 1868 and was one of the oldest local medical societies in California. MMS was founded 20 years later in 1888. SFMMS begins a new era and provides an expanded platform for service to Bay Area physicians and their patients. SFMMS is a professional association representing physicians, medical students, residents, and fellows in all modes of practice and specialties in San Francisco and Marin Counties. The purpose of SFMMS is to improve the health of the San Francisco and Marin communities by uniting and supporting the local physician community and serving their professional needs. SFMMS is a component medical society of the California Medical Association (CMA). Support of SFMMS and CMA through membership affirms physicians' commitment to the profession of medicine and to preserving its honored place in modern society. With more than 2,000 members, SFMMS is committed to keeping the practice of medicine in the hands of physicians, helping to champion health care initiatives, and advocating for patients. Now, more than ever, the future of medicine depends on physicians coming together to achieve common goals and ensure that our voices are heard.
