دخلت الشارقة تاريخ الملاحة الجوية من أوسع الأبواب في العام 1932 عندما حطت أول طائرة وصلت الإمارة في مدرج مطار المحطة. ومنذ ذلك الحين ومطار الشارقة يثبت نفسه بجدارة باعتباره مطاراً حديثاً يوفر خدمات مميزة بمعايير عالمية من خلال عدد كبير من المبادرات المهمة. يؤمن مطار الشارقة الدولي والقائمين عليه ببناء الجسور بين الحضارات، سواء في البر أو في الجو، لذا ومنذ القدم طبّق مطار الشارقة الدولي سياسة الأجواء المفتوحة والتي تسمح لخطوط الطيران بالمرور من غير أية عوائق حيث يفخر المطار بمعدلاتها التنافسية من ناحية الهبوط والمناولة والمدعمة ببنية تحتية قوية ومعدات متطورة لصيانة الطائرات بكافة أنواعها وقد واصل المطار التطور حتى دشن أحدث مدرجاته في العام 2014، وهو يعد أحد أطول المدرجات في المنطقة بطول 4060 متراً وقدرات من الفئة الثانية CAT II Sharjah made aviation history in 1932, when the first flight to the emirate landed at the Al Mahatta runway. Since then Sharjah International Airport has proven itself a modern airport providing world class services through a series of groundbreaking initiatives. Sharjah International Airport believes in building bridges on the ground and in the air. As such, it has an open sky policy, which allows airline traffic from all over the world hassle-free access to the airport. In addition, the airport inaugurated its newest runway in 2014. It is one of the region’s longest at 4060 meters with Cat II capabilities.
