About Studio Bark

No building as usual. That’s our mantra, and we’d love it to be yours too. We’re all living under the threat of a different, less liveable planet, and our mission is to deliver dream homes to our clients, drive forward sustainable design, and inspire change. We’re transparent risk-takers and positive disruptors. We’re generous with our knowledge, to our clients, to our partners, to curious students – in fact, to all our fellow humans. We question everything, hold ourselves accountable, and get our hands dirty, literally. By sticking our own necks out, we do whatever we can to make our clients feel comfortable and ready for what lies ahead. Studio Bark was founded in 2014 by Wilf Meynell. Our rigorous environmental ethos and ambitious design approach has been recognised within the industry and beyond; our unique Paragraph 84 private home Periscope House was featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. We have a successful track record securing planning permission for ambitious designs on challenging sites across the UK. Our portfolio of built work encompasses residential and community projects with a specialism in bespoke homes. We have extensive experience delivering projects through Paragraph 84 (previously Paragraph 80) of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). In addition to architectural design services outlined in the Bark Client Journey, we offer site finding and site evaluation services drawing upon our detailed knowledge of planning policy. Depending on the project, specialist construction and fabrication services can be provided through our contracting arm, Studio Bark Projects. We have developed the widely-published U-Build flat pack construction system for aspiring self build clients. We’re also passionate about teaching and run regular student build programmes. In 2021 we launched ‘No Building As Usual’ as a more collaborative cross-sector approach to student live builds.
