About Sundance Circle Hippotherapy
Sundance Circle Hippotherapy provides an alternative to the typical office setting for speech, occupational & physical therapy. With the assistance of our equine therapists (horses), our human therapists provide PT, OT & SLP services designed to help patients with cognitive, sensory & physical disabilities. (Sumner, WA) What is Hippotherapy? Hippotherapy is defined as the purposeful manipulation of the equine as a therapeutic or rehabilitative treatment, especially as a means of improving coordination, balance and strength. What We Do: We offer speech, physical and occupational therapy services; the horse is manipulated through its movement to effect neurosensory and musculoskeletal change in a therapeutic manner. Patients are ages 3 and up, with majority of our patients being pediatric and having varying diagnoses. We provide individualized treatment plans to help each patient and their family meet their therapeutic goals. Each new accomplishment is celebrated alongside the riders, caregivers and family members by our therapists and dedicated volunteers. Therapy Challenges: There can be many challenges that an individual or family can face when it comes to therapy. Our local community is plagued by wait lists for pediatric therapy. Wait lists can be months long and have hundreds ahead of your child. Imagine wanting and needing to seek therapy for your child only to be told you have to wait. Insurance caps also pose a great challenge. A therapy cap is the dollar amount that one’s insurance allows. Once these caps have been met, insurance coverage might be denied, leaving financial responsibility with the patient or families. With limitations on availability in our community for pediatric therapy, and challenges that come with insurance, the trials that patients and families face can be very intimidating, and financially overwhelming. You can help by donating to our cause, volunteering, sponsoring a horse, or attending one of our events!
