The Bridge Project seeks to eradicate childhood poverty. It is one of the nation’s largest unconditional cash programs for babies, starting during pregnancy through the first 1,000 days of the baby’s life. Launched in June 2021 in New York City by The Monarch Foundation, The Bridge Project is designed to support low-income mothers and babies by providing them with consistent, unconditional cash on a biweekly basis. This reliable support allows recipients to live healthier lives, with notably less anxiety and lower depression levels, and creates new opportunities for self-determination, choice, goal-setting, and planning for the future. The Bridge Project is scaling the idea of a guaranteed income as an innovative, simple, and empowering solution to poverty, with participant cohorts in New York City, Rochester, Buffalo, Milwaukee, Connecticut and the Appalachian region. Additional expansions throughout the U.S. are planned for this year and beyond. Our approach is efficient, scalable, and flexible, and treats people with dignity.
