About The Tech Summer School

Technology has created a bright new world brimming with opportunity. According to the AFD, there will be 230 million “Digital Jobs” in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, yet less that 1% of young Africans learn how to code in school. To ensure that Technology delivers on its promise to alleviate poverty and create opportunity for all, we must ensure equal access to this new world of opportunity, otherwise there is a high risk that the economic and social benefits of technological advances will only be felt by a privileged few. The TECH SUMMER SCHOOL is a hands-on, project based program, which combines competency-based training with real-world problem solving. We use real world challenges including those defined by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), as fodder for team-based learning, to build innovation among our young learners, giving them the uncommon and exceptional opportunity to develop skills the skills needed to understand problems and develop creative and actionable solutions. Learning that incorporates real-world, experiential projects is highly valuable because it helps learners identify interesting career paths, and shows them that they are capable of achieving so much more than they previously imagined. Working on their team projects will enable our young learners build mastery of those productivity tools that will become the foundation for much of their career, as well as expand their interest their interest in technologies like Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, Data and other emerging emerging technologies to come.
