About The Vulgar Geniuses

Vulgar Geniuses is a multi-platform company dedicated to highlighting writers of color. Founded by friends Dennie Wang and Veronica Smith, Vulgar Geniuses was launched in March of 2020 when we were looking for a new way to celebrate our love of reading and find escapism during a time where our world was met with an unprecedented event. Since launching, we have produced a podcast that has featured an array of monthly book reviews, interviews with writers and community progressives dedicated to amplifying voices of marginalized Brown and Black people. We hope to quench a huge thirst to read and hear from new contemporary writers such as Viet Thanh Nguyen, Michael Arceneaux, Meredith Talusan, and Helen Oyeyemi while exploring classic voices like Arundhati Roy, Laura Esquivel, and Chinua Achebe. We at Vulgar Geniuses aim at creating a safe space to discuss social issues, expand our worldview and experiences that will help make room and construct a platform for the voiceless and silenced.
