About Thinking Matters - Whole School Metacognition
Thinking Matters supports schools to take an explicit, evidence informed, whole school approach to developing pupils’ cognitive capabilities and intelligent learning behaviours. We believe metacognition is more than just reflecting on your learning. Metacognition is being able to adapt to the unknown. It is having strategies to make progress at whatever you set your mind to. Metacognition is future proofing. Our consultants work with school leaders, taking time to understand their school’s individual situations and offering advice on how to embed and measure the impact of a metacognitive approach to teaching and learning within their organisations. We complement our Thinking School Consultancy with teacher and CPD training. The training we offer varies depending on the needs of the schools we work with. It ranges from: - Becoming a Thinking School: A flexible programme to suit the context and needs of your school. to - Deep Dive CPD Days: Individual twilight sessions designed for existing Thinking Schools that focus on specific aspects of cognitive education. Our services can be provided both online and/or in-school, with equal effectiveness, incorporating a blended learning approach. We offer a range of online metacognitive tools that help schools to explicitly develop their learners' ability to plan, monitor, evaluate and action growth in: 1. Cognitive Processes - via our Thinking Frames 2. Learning Behaviours - via our Dispositions MetaWheel 3. Motivation - via our Motivational Maps 4. Metacognition - via our Online Independent Learners Course
