About Turk Kauffman Architecture
Turk Kauffman Architecture / Fourth Street Studio is a full-service architecture firm. Projects include remodels, additions and new construction throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Principals hold Masters of Architecture degrees from the University of California Berkeley. Turk Kauffman is a registered architect in the state of California with thirty years of architecture experience. Lauri Puchall combines her interest in non-toxic construction methods with 25 years experience in architecture and design. The firm welcomes jobs of all types and scales including reuse of existing buildings, new homes, interiors, outdoor features, furniture design, lighting and master planning. Themes running through the work are outdoor living, natural daylight, live-work environments and design for art, plants and other collections. Small environmental and physical footprints and multi-family and multi-generational housing are likewise a focus. Founded in the East Bay in 2001, the firm has successfully completed projects in incorporated and unincorporated Marin County, Berkeley, Oakland, Piedmont, Kensington, El Cerrito, Walnut Creek, Orinda, Sunol, and San Francisco. Weaving sustainability and material ecology into every building, we meet or exceed energy and clean building standards. As advocates for full-material disclosure of building products we promote the least toxic options and design for the safe use of technology. Clients include non-profit nature preserves such as Audubon Canyon Ranch and Marin Agricultural Land Trust as well as businesses like the Cowgirl Creamery. Through hands-on experience with Bay Area building departments and other regulatory agencies, we streamline the permitting process for our clients. We enjoy collaborating with builders, visual artists, musicians and other professionals who choose active participation in the design of their homes, workplaces and public spaces.
