About USCRI Latin America and the Caribbean

Diálogo Intercultural Mexicano becomes the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. As the successful result of a year-long discussion process, Diálogo Intercultural Mexicano (DIME) has transitioned to become the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), an international non-profit organization based in Arlington, Virginia that has served displaced populations for over 110 years. USCRI was founded in 1911 as a civil society organization that aimed to protect the rights and address the needs of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide and support their transition to a dignified life. As a politically unaffiliated and secular non-governmental organization, USCRI provides legal, social, and health services to refugees, unaccompanied migrating children, trafficking survivors, and other immigrants. USCRI advocates for the rights of refugees and immigrants both nationally and globally, helping to drive policies, practices, and law. The relationship between DIME and USCRI dates back to 2020, when, in the face of the implementation of the Migration Protection Protocols, both organizations partnered to launch the U.S.-Mexico Border Program in Tijuana to defend the right to asylum in Mexican and American courts. Based on this shared experience working together across borders, this partnership continued to strengthen and grow. At a time of unprecedented displacement, we recognize that sustainable solutions to large movements of refugees and migrants cannot be achieved without regional approaches and international coordination that guarantee access to international protection for refugees, safe and regular pathways for migrants, and dignified and sustainable returns for returnees.
