About We Make Places
We Make Places is a Community Interest Company, based in Liverpool, UK which is writing, living and delivering a manifesto for change across the built environment. We help communities of interest and locality to develop sustainable projects. These projects are about reconsidering ignored, underused or condemned places in a new light, allowing them to rise again becoming healthy, happy, active and loved. As Designers, Communicators and Makers we make long-term change happen with speed and passion We also help commercial and third sector clients to identify and communicate with their stakeholders regarding public space projects, public art and capital investments. We Make Places CIC established Urban Workbench, a learning & manufacturing hub in the heart of Everton on the fringe of Liverpool City Centre, in response to resident feedback and extensive community engagement throughout the neighbourhoods in which we work. Urban Workbench houses a state-of-the-art CNC machine on which we manufacture sustainable, ethical furniture & gifts for retail in addition to bespoke CNC commissions for commercial organisations and individuals throughout the City Region. From our commercial work, profits are reinvested into our social purpose & objectives, to support local residents & neighbourhoods. Our Learning Programme, which teaches individuals basic skills in joinery & DIY, aims to combat social isolation and improve mental health & wellbeing for our participants working closely with partner organisations that have cohorts of hard-to-reach residents that may be adversely affected by various social & economic issues limiting their educational attainment, employability or general social skills & self-confidence.
