About Wyoming Humanities
For nearly 50 years, Wyoming Humanities has been the sole nonprofit public humanities organization in the state. Through community grants and programs the council fosters community building through conversation and critical thinking– the core of an informed, engaged citizenry. The Wyoming Humanities Council is an independent nonprofit organization supporting public programs that draw on history, literature, philosophy, languages, linguistics, art history, law, religion, ethics, anthropology, sociology, political science, folklore, or any of the other fields of the humanities. The council’s programs have included conferences, exhibits, interpretive guides, collections preservation, publications, workshops, and lecture series, Humanities Forum, Reading Wyoming, Museums on Main Street, and Humanities at Work. Many of the council’s programs are carried out by other organizations which have applied to the council for funds and have been awarded project grants. The council also designs and conducts programming on its own. Based in Laramie on the University of Wyoming campus and with a field office in Jackson, WH has a staff of 7. Direction of the council is vested in the up-to twenty members of the council who serve as the board of directors. Board members meet three times a year to review and provide strategic vision, oversee the budget, act on fundraising initiatives, assist with fundraising activities, and supervise the council’s role as an exemplary nonprofit organization. The council meets at various locations throughout the state. Follow us on Twitter at @ThinkWY and check out our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/thinkwy
