About Domestic Violence Association of New Brunswick

Formally founded in January 2009, DVANB is a non-profit organization working to address the issue of domestic and intimate partner violence (DIPV) in New Brunswick through collaboration, advocacy, and awareness. In 2023, DVANB changed its long-standing name, "New Brunswick South Central Transition House and Second Stage Coalition". DVANB has 12 member organizations including transition houses and second stage housing programs, many of which also provide outreach services and sexual violence services. DVANB brings it's member organizations together to discuss relevant common issues and share best practices in supporting women* and their children struggling with abuse and violence. DVANB's work also includes research, developing training materials and opportunities for service providers, establishing standards in the DIPV sector, advocacy for systems change, and public awareness initiatives. We plan our work in response to the concerns that our members are hearing from the women and children who use their services. We also collaborate with government departments, other community organizations, and academic institutions to implement best practices in responding to DIPV across the province. DVANB itself does not provide frontline services to survivors of DIPV. Instead, DVANB supports our 12 member organizations. Our members provide a wide range of direct supports that are free and confidential to those who have experienced DIPV. Many operate 24/7 crisis lines.
